2018 X2 Crankshaft Sensor Safety Recall 18V-465

Alto

NHTSA campaign 18V-465 covers certain 2018 BMW X2 sDrive28i and xDrive28i vehicles produced from May 16 through June 6, 2018. Incorrect sensor firmware can fail to process crankshaft-reluctor-ring input accurately, causing rough running, reduced power or an engine stall. Applicability is VIN-specific.

Sintomas: Rough-running engine · Reduced engine power · Engine stall

Solução: Check the VIN for an open 18V-465 campaign. If open, an authorized BMW dealer replaces the crankshaft sensor free of charge. A stall or sudden loss of power requires moving to a safe location and arranging BMW assistance; do not order a sensor from this card. ShowMeTheParts resolved exact X2 category fitment only, so no commerce link is approved.

2019 X2 Steering Tie-Rod Safety Recall 19V-601

Alto

BMW SIB 32 07 19 and NHTSA campaign 19V-601 cover a VIN-specific 2019 X2 xDrive28i population. A cone collar disc may not have been installed on a steering tie rod, allowing excessive tie-rod-end wear and eventual breakage with loss of steering control.

Sintomas: Steering looseness · Abnormal steering noise · Loss of steering control if a tie rod breaks

Solução: Check the VIN in BMW AIR or NHTSA for an open 19V-601 campaign. If open, an authorized BMW dealer checks both tie rods and replaces the tie rods and ball joints as necessary free of charge. Do not infer recall eligibility from model year alone or order steering parts from this card.

B48 Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak/Cracking

Alto

The B48 2.0L turbo engine in X2 models (2018-2023) has a plastic oil filter housing that cracks from heat cycling, typically around 55,000-65,000 miles. The plastic housing becomes brittle over time and develops cracks that allow oil and coolant to mix, potentially causing catastrophic engine damage if not caught early. This is a design flaw - the plastic housing is mounted near the hot turbo and exhaust manifold where temperatures cause premature degradation. When the housing cracks, oil and coolant can cross-contaminate, leading to milky oil, overheating, and engine failure. Aftermarket aluminum upgrade housings ($250-350) are recommended over OEM plastic replacement to permanently solve the issue.

Sintomas: Oil leak visible around oil filter housing area · Coolant and oil mixing (milky residue on dipstick or oil cap) · Burning oil smell from engine bay · Coolant level dropping without visible external leak · Oil spots under vehicle near front of engine · Overheating due to coolant loss

Solução: Replace the cracked oil filter housing. OEM plastic housing replacement (BMW 11428596283, $412 dealer) will eventually crack again. RECOMMENDED: Install aftermarket aluminum upgrade housing ($250-350) which permanently eliminates the heat-cycling crack issue. FCP Euro kit 11428596283KT ($450) includes all gaskets and seals. If coolant and oil have mixed, perform complete oil flush and coolant system flush before installing new housing. Check for engine damage if contamination was prolonged.

X2 Integrated Brake System Defect — NHTSA Recall 24V104000 (2024-2025)

Alto

For the 2024 and 2025 X2, BMW filed NHTSA recall 24V104000 covering a possible malfunction of the integrated brake (IB) system. The malfunction can either remove power brake assist — meaning the X2 needs a longer distance to stop — or leave the Antilock Brake and Dynamic Stability Control systems working improperly, which NHTSA says can cause a loss of vehicle control. This is a safety recall, not a service bulletin, and the consequence stated is an increased risk of a crash. The 266,716 units cited apply to the campaign as a whole across BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles.

Sintomas: Power brake assist lost — firm, unassisted pedal · Extended stopping distance · ABS not operating properly · DSC not operating properly

Solução: Dealers replace the integrated brake system free of charge. BMW mailed owner notification letters between June and December 2024. To find out if your X2 is affected and still unrepaired, run the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and look for 24V104000, or call BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2025 X2 Integrated Brake System Recall 26V-422

Alto

BMW is recalling certain 2025 BMW X2 vehicles under NHTSA campaign 26V422000. The integrated brake (IB) system in these X2s may malfunction, and the malfunction can either take away power brake assist or leave the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems not working properly. For an X2 driver the first case means the brake pedal requires far more effort and the car needs more room to stop; the second means the electronic safety nets you rely on in hard braking or a slippery corner may not intervene as designed, which can lead to loss of control. Either outcome raises crash risk, which is why BMW is inspecting the hardware rather than issuing a software-only fix. The 428-vehicle figure attached to this recall is the total across all models in the campaign, not the number of X2s. X2s repaired earlier under recall 24V739 or 24V104 must have the new remedy done as well.

Sintomas: Hard brake pedal / loss of power assist · Longer distance required to stop · ABS system not working correctly · DSC (stability control) not working correctly

Solução: Schedule the free recall service at a BMW dealer, where the integrated brake system is inspected and replaced if it is found to be defective. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed August 21, 2026, and you can confirm whether your particular 2025 X2 is affected by entering its VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (VINs became searchable August 21, 2026). A previous repair under 24V739 or 24V104 does not cover this campaign. Questions: BMW customer service, 1-800-525-7417.

Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak

Médio

Like other BMW models with the B48 engine, the X2 suffers from oil filter housing gasket degradation. Heat cycling causes the rubber gasket to harden and shrink, resulting in oil leaks that can drip onto hot exhaust components and the serpentine belt.

Sintomas: Burning oil smell after driving · Oil spots on driveway or garage floor · Serpentine belt squealing from oil contamination · Low oil level warning between service intervals · Visible oil seepage around filter housing · Light smoke from engine compartment

Solução: Replace the oil filter housing gasket. Clean all oil-contaminated surfaces and inspect the serpentine belt for oil damage. Replace belt if oil-soaked. Use OEM-quality gasket material for longevity.

Front Control Arm Bushing Premature Wear

Médio

The X2 front control arm bushings wear prematurely, especially in models driven on rough roads or in colder climates. The rubber bushings crack and deteriorate, causing clunking noises and imprecise steering feel. Failures commonly occur as early as 30,000-50,000 miles.

Sintomas: Clunking or knocking noise over bumps · Steering wander or vague feel at highway speeds · Uneven front tire wear · Vibration through steering wheel · Vehicle pulls to one side · Noise when turning at low speed

Solução: Replace front control arms with new bushings (sold as complete assemblies by BMW). Aftermarket options with upgraded polyurethane bushings are available for longer life. Perform a four-wheel alignment after replacement.

B48 Timing Chain Tensioner Weakness

Médio

The B48 engine in the X2 can develop timing chain tensioner issues, particularly in earlier production years. While improved over the N20, the hydraulic tensioner can lose pressure, allowing chain slack that leads to noise and potential timing issues. Most commonly seen after 50,000 miles.

Sintomas: Brief rattling noise on cold startup that goes away · Ticking sound from engine at idle · Check Engine light for camshaft timing codes · Slight rough idle when cold · Reduced fuel economy · Engine hesitation under acceleration

Solução: Replace the timing chain tensioner and inspect the chain and guides. If the chain has stretched beyond specification, replace the full timing chain kit. Updated tensioner design from BMW addresses the oil pressure retention issue.

Aisin 8-Speed Transmission Jerking

Médio

The Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission in 2018-2020 X2 models suffers from oil pump neck wear and calibration issues causing jerking during shifts, particularly in 2nd and 3rd gears. The transmission also exhibits delayed reverse engagement. BMW issued TSB GBSEL-SELP24 acknowledging the issue. Early models may be addressed with a software recalibration update, but severe cases with oil pump neck wear require mechanical repair or transmission replacement. The oil pump neck wears internally due to design tolerances, causing pressure fluctuations that result in harsh, jerky shifts.

Sintomas: Jerking or harsh shifts in 2nd and 3rd gears · Delayed engagement when shifting into reverse · Hesitation between gear changes · Rough low-speed shifting · Transmission shudder during light acceleration · Clunking noise when shifting

Solução: Start with transmission software recalibration at BMW dealer ($200-500) which may resolve calibration-related shifting issues. If software update does not resolve, transmission may require oil pump replacement or internal repair ($2,000-5,000). In severe cases with extensive oil pump neck wear, complete transmission replacement required ($5,000-7,000). Reference TSB GBSEL-SELP24 when visiting dealer.

Valve Cover Gasket Oil Leak

Baixo

X2 models (2018-2023) develop valve cover gasket oil leaks at around 70,000+ miles as a routine wear item. The gasket deteriorates from heat cycling, hardening and cracking over time. Oil seeps from the valve cover mating surface, dripping onto exhaust manifold and other engine components, causing burning oil smell and visible smoke. While not immediately catastrophic, the leak worsens over time and low oil levels from ongoing leak can damage engine internals. This is a common maintenance item on all BMW engines and should be budgeted for around 70,000-80,000 miles.

Sintomas: Oil visible on valve cover edges or engine sides · Burning oil smell from engine bay · Oil dripping onto exhaust manifold causing smoke · Oil spots under vehicle · Low oil level warnings · Oil residue on spark plug wells

Solução: Replace valve cover gasket. Genuine BMW valve cover assembly 11127611278 ($200-350) includes integrated gasket. Labor typically 2-3 hours ($300-500). Total cost $700-1,000 at shop. DIY possible with basic tools to save $300-500 in labor. Replace spark plug tube seals at same time if applicable - labor overlap saves money. Monitor oil level between repairs.

Custo do reparo: $700–$1,000
