On an EV this is compounded by regenerative braking blending - drivers accustomed to one-pedal deceleration may not discover the reduced friction-brake capability until an emergency stop. The i5's own NHTSA complaint file shows brake system failures as its largest theme, including a warning that 'braking may require additional force' and repeated reports that recall parts were unavailable across multiple VINs.
