2012-2025 Fiat Strada Problems: 6 Known Issues

Previous-generation Strada Adventure 1.8 16V models equipped with the Dualogic automated single-clutch gearbox (C510-based) suffer the well-known Fiat Dualogic failure pattern: jerky gear changes, accelerated clutch wear, and failures of the hydraulic clutch actuator and its position sensor. Documented faults include the gearbox dropping into neutral while driving (the ECU's fail-safe when actuator/sensor readings are inconsistent), delayed or refused engagement when cold, and clutch slip caused by actuator position-sensor play that overheats the clutch. Fiat announced a recall on September 13, 2024 for the Strada after identifying that fixing bolts securing the upper steering column to the body structure may be absent on certain 2024 and 2025 model-year units (chassis range RYF16242 to SYF59553). In a collision, the missing fasteners can allow unexpected structural deformation of the body, increasing the risk of serious or fatal injuries to occupants. The defect produces no reliable warning signs in normal driving, so verification by chassis number is essential. The same September 2024 call-back campaign also covered a parking-brake lever check on several Fiat models, with combined repairs taking around two hours.

Water leaking into the cabin during rain is one of the most chronic complaints on the second-generation Strada. Owners report wet carpets and a constantly damp cabin — most frequently with water entering around the passenger-side door — with cases documented on Reclame Aqui involving trucks only days to months old, including a 2024 zero-km unit showing severe infiltration and mold formation within six months. The Brazilian automotive press (Mobiauto, Vrum) describes the pickup's body sealing as fragile, and Carro Club maintains a dedicated leak/infiltration forum section for the model. Related complaints include power windows that stick and fail to close fully, which worsens water entry. Work-spec Working/Endurance cab variants also draw complaints of dust and water entering the cab.

In May 2025, Stellantis/Fiat issued an official Brazilian recall covering the Strada (alongside the Argo, Cronos, Mobi, Pulse and Fiorino) for a defect in the engine control module (ECM). Water can infiltrate the module housing and short-circuit the component, which can shut the engine off unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. The manufacturer warned the failure could result in material damage, physical injury or even fatal consequences to occupants or third parties. Affected Stradas are 2025 model-year units assembled between roughly January and April 2025, identified by chassis range on Fiat's recall portal. The problem was detected through internal testing and consumer reports, with failures concentrated in heavy-rain conditions.

Owners of the new-generation Strada — many still under warranty and below 20,000 km — report loud knocking and metallic contact noises from the front suspension, concentrated on the right side, that in some documented cases persisted after three dealer visits. The classic failure described by Brazilian mechanics is worn control-arm bushings producing a 'tock-tock' knock at low speed over rough pavement; left unaddressed it accelerates wear of the control arm and ball joint.
