2023 Genesis GV60 Problems: 10 Known Issues

On the 2023 Genesis GV60, nHTSA recall 23V-557 (Genesis recall 015G, August 2023) covers 2023 Genesis GV60 vehicles in which the automatic locking retractor (ALR) of the front passenger seat belt can remain locked after it is first engaged and the webbing fully retracts. Once latched in that state the belt will not pay out, so the occupant simply cannot pull the belt across and fasten it. The vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 ('Occupant Crash Protection') and 209 ('Seat Belt Assemblies') - an unfastenable belt means an unrestrained front passenger.

On the 2023 Genesis GV60, nHTSA recall 23V-094 (Genesis recall 012G, February 2023) covers 2023 Genesis GV60 vehicles whose front seat belt pretensioners can deploy abnormally, allowing the micro gas generator (MGG) to detach from the pretensioner assembly. An abnormal pyrotechnic deployment can cause the pretensioner to rupture and project metal fragments into the occupant compartment, which can injure occupants during a crash - the moment they are least able to avoid it. This is the same MGG separation defect that swept multiple Hyundai, Kia and Genesis nameplates in early 2023, and the GV60 is explicitly in the campaign population.

On the 2023-2025 Genesis GV60, the defining failure of the E-GMP platform, and NHTSA campaigns explicitly name the Genesis GV60 (Genesis recall numbers 021G and 025G) alongside the IONIQ 5/6, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80. Electrical stress and heat damage the ICCU, which houses the on-board charger and the DC-DC converter that steps 800V/400V pack voltage down to charge the 12V auxiliary battery. When the ICCU dies, the 12V battery is no longer replenished; owners typically report a loud pop or bang from under the rear seat / rear of the cabin, followed by a 'Check Electric Vehicle System' warning, then 'Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply', and finally a complete shutdown that can strand the car mid-drive. This is distinct from ordinary parasitic 12V drain while parked: it is a hardware failure of the converter itself, and the car will not recover after a 12V jump because nothing is charging the battery. The initial campaign 24V-204 (March 2024) was superseded and expanded by 24V-868 (November 2024), which covered roughly 145,000 Hyundai/Genesis E-GMP vehicles and required vehicles already repaired under 24V-204 to return for the newer remedy. Because failures continued after the recall remedies, Hyundai and Genesis subsequently extended ICCU coverage well beyond the standard warranty.

On the 2023-2026 Genesis GV60, the GV60's digital instrument cluster can come up completely blank at startup, hiding the speedometer, state-of-charge gauge and warning telltales. NHTSA recall 25V-474 (Genesis recall 027G, July 2025) covers 2023-2025 GV60 and G90 vehicles - 2,409 GV60s in the US population - and states the vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 101, 'Controls and Displays'. The root cause is the cluster software start-up sequence producing signal distortion on the communication bus between the MCU and ROM in the LG Electronics-supplied cluster. A related follow-on campaign, 26V-019 (January 2026), covers 2025-2026 GV60 for a display that may intermittently reboot during operation and go temporarily blank, traced to a software logic issue involving HD Radio memory storage. Owners had reported blank clusters for one to eight minutes after startup before either campaign was filed.

On the 2023-2026 Genesis GV60 Electric, the GV60 OTA (over-the-air) update process occasionally fails mid-installation, leaving the vehicle in a partially updated state. Failed updates can cause infotainment malfunctions, ADAS feature deactivation, or charging management errors.

On the 2023-2026 Genesis GV60 Electric, the GV60 can experience excessive 12V auxiliary battery drain when parked for extended periods. Connected services modules, security systems, and over-the-air update checks continue drawing power, depleting the small 12V battery within 5-7 days of inactivity.

On the 2023-2026 Genesis GV60 Electric, the GV60 range estimation algorithm shows significant variability, with actual range often falling 15-25% short of the displayed estimate in cold weather or at sustained highway speeds above 70 mph. The system does not adequately factor in ambient temperature and driving speed.

On the 2023 Genesis GV60, two separate NHTSA recalls specifically name the 2023 Genesis GV60 for rear driveshafts that can break in service. Under 23V-300 (Genesis recall 014G, April 2023), 1,790 all-wheel-drive 2023 GV60s were built with rear driveshafts that were subjected to abnormal stress during manufacturing and could fracture. Under 24V-065 (Genesis recall 017G, January 2024), a much smaller population of 46 model year 2023 GV60s received rear inner driveshafts that were improperly heat-treated and could break. In both cases a fractured shaft causes a sudden loss of motive power to that wheel while driving. This is a dual-motor AWD hardware issue - the shafts in question are the rear integrated drive axle (IDA) shafts feeding the rear drive unit's output.

On the 2023-2025 Genesis GV60, nHTSA recall 25V-624 (Genesis recall 028G, September 2025) covers roughly 8,000 2023-2025 Genesis GV60 electric vehicles whose stainless-steel molding across the top of the windshield can come loose and detach. The molding was produced with insufficient adhesive because of a temperature control problem in manufacturing. Hyundai documented 112 reports of molding detachment between October 26, 2022 and August 8, 2025. A trim strip departing a vehicle at highway speed is a road hazard for traffic behind. The tell before it lets go is aerodynamic: owners report a whistle or wind noise from the top edge of the windshield.

On the 2023-2026 Genesis GV60, the GV60's signature keyless ownership feature - Face Connect at the B-pillar to unlock, plus a fingerprint reader on the center console to authorize start and switch driver profiles - loses reliability on the fingerprint half. Owners on the Genesis Owners Club report the console reader working well immediately after enrolment and then degrading over weeks or months: the sensor flashes orange and beeps rather than authorizing, and the car will not start without the fob. One owner described the success rate falling from near 100 percent to roughly 10 percent, recovering only after deleting and re-enrolling the print, and needing to repeat that roughly every two months. Notably the same owners report the B-pillar facial recognition being essentially 100 percent reliable, which points at the console fingerprint sensor and its stored template rather than the biometric entry system as a whole. This is a usability and stranding-risk issue rather than a safety defect - the fob and the Genesis app still work - and there is no recall.
