2022 Hyundai Venue Problems: 6 Known Issues

On the 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue, venue owners, concentrated on the 2020 model, report the engine unexpectedly shutting off, particularly while slowing or coming to a complete stop, sometimes with rough idle. No Hyundai bulletin or recall identifies a cause for these reports. CarComplaints documents a 2020 owner reporting repeated random stalls at low mileage (about 3,900 miles) with no fault codes stored.

On the 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue, nHTSA recall 22V-458 covers certain 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue vehicles. The driver-side and/or passenger-side pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioner may deploy abnormally in certain crashes because of over-pressurization. Metal fragments could enter the occupant compartment and injure occupants. The recall report states there is no warning before abnormal deployment.

On the 2020-2026 Hyundai Venue Smartstream G1.6 MPI (Gamma II), hyundai TSB 23-AT-010H (August 2023) covers 2020MY-and-later Venue (QX) equipped with the IVT, alongside Elantra, Accent and Kona IVT models. The IVT driven-pulley oil pressure sensor (part 48885-02300) can fail electrically or read out of range, turning on the check-engine light with P0845 (sensor output at or below 0.27 V or at or above 4.50 V), P0846 (sensor output 2.5-3.5 V with target-vs-actual driven-pulley pressure off by 4 bar or more) or P0867 (target vs actual secondary pulley pressure differing by more than 7 bar). The bulletin exists because dealers had been replacing whole transmissions for what is a sensor fault: when the vehicle has ONLY the DTC and no drivability complaint (no slipping, shift shock, poor acceleration or failure to engage), the sensor is replaced through the IVT oil pan with a new pan gasket and 7 quarts of fluid, then 'Oil Pressure Characteristics Input' and adaptive-value relearn are performed with GDS-M. If drivability symptoms are present the whole IVT is still replaced. Note P0867 also appears in the T8X campaign list for 2020-22 units, so an owner with P0867 should have both bulletins checked.

On the 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue Gamma 1.6L MPI, owners describe the IVT seeming unable to settle on a ratio, with the tachometer twitching and a slight shudder at low speed, and a lag on takeoff. Some owners say a dealer transmission software update reduced the takeoff lag. The cause on a given car has not been confirmed. Applies to: 2020–2022 Venue (QX) models with the IVT and the Gamma 1.6L MPI engine. The owner reports found are on 2020 and early-2021 builds. Hyundai service campaign T8X (bulletin 23-01-019H) applied a TCU update, listed as "IVT Driving Performance Improvement", to certain 2020–2022 Venues built September 17, 2019 – October 20, 2021. No owner report or Hyundai document was found for 2023 or later, including the 2024 Venue.

On the 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue 1.6L Smartstream G1.6 (Gamma II) 4-cyl, the Venue's horn can become faint or completely inoperative when foreign substances and moisture intrude into the horn assembly, oxidizing/corroding the internal contacts. The failure was common enough that Hyundai issued Warranty Extension TXXU covering the horn assembly on 2020-2022 Venue (QX) vehicles. Horn/electrical failures are a documented complaint pattern for the model (electrical is a top complaint category for the 2022 Venue on CarComplaints).

On the 2021-2023 Hyundai Venue, owners report the touchscreen going black while Bluetooth audio keeps playing, until the car is restarted, and wireless Apple CarPlay disconnecting with a "Phone Not Responding" message. Hyundai says the CarPlay disconnects are caused by Apple iOS software and issued radio software that reduces them on certain 2021 Venues, and issued a software update for an intermittent black screen on certain 2023 Venues. Applies to: 2021–2023 Venue (QX) models with Hyundai display audio. Owner reports found cover 2021 models. Bulletin 21-01-007H (campaign T5T) covers certain 2021 Venues with display audio; campaign TBW (bulletin 24-01-045H-1) is a display audio software update for certain 2022 Venues built February 2021 – September 2022 and does not name a symptom; bulletin 24-BE-004H covers only 2023 Venues built 9/1/2022 – 6/30/2023 with key-start ignition. No owner report or Hyundai document was found for the 2024 Venue.
