2025 Volkswagen Taos Problems: 11 Known Issues

On the 2025 Volkswagen Taos, a software fault in the instrument panel control module can leave the digital instrument cluster completely blank when the vehicle is started, so vehicle speed, engine speed (RPM), gear/mode indicators and warning telltales are not displayed. Volkswagen recalled 75,323 model year 2025 Jetta and Taos vehicles on March 25, 2026 under NHTSA campaign 26V185000 (VW internal code 90Z5); the condition is a non-compliance with FMVSS 101, Controls and Displays. Owner notification letters went out May 22, 2026.

On the 2022-2025 Volkswagen Taos, the MIB3 infotainment system in the Taos experiences frequent software glitches including screen freezes, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto disconnections, Bluetooth pairing failures, and slow boot times. The system can occasionally display a black screen or reboot while driving. VW has released dealer-installed MIB3 software updates and a USB recovery procedure (TSB 91-23-04) but the system remains buggy for many owners.

On the 2022-2025 Volkswagen Taos 1.5L EA211 TSI (DNKA), taos owners report gradual coolant loss with low-coolant warnings, often appearing well before 30,000 miles. The most common source is the integrated plastic water pump/thermostat housing assembly on the EA211 1.5 TSI, which seeps at the gasket/housing seam; cracked radiator hoses and faulty radiator caps are secondary sources. Owners describe the issue being handed off as a per-customer concern rather than a formal recall, with some dealers simply topping off coolant and advising owners to 'keep an eye' on the level, which delays a proper diagnosis. Left unaddressed, sustained coolant loss risks overheating.

On the 2022-2025 Volkswagen Taos, the A/C compressor produces an abnormal noise and vibration that transmits through the cabin, especially noticeable at idle with A/C on. Some owners report a grinding or rattling from the compressor area. VW issued a TSB for this issue.

On the 2025-2026 Volkswagen Taos, on 2025-2026 Taos vehicles built between July 2024 and April 2026, the fuel pressure sensor wiring harness was manufactured too short. The undersized harness puts standing tension on the sensor where it mounts to the fuel tank. In a rear-end collision the harness can yank the fuel pressure sensor loose from the tank, allowing fuel to leak and creating a post-crash fire risk. Volkswagen recalled 38,710 vehicles under NHTSA campaign 26V258; owner notification letters were mailed June 4, 2026. This is a separate defect from the earlier 21V651 quick-connector and 23V214 fuel delivery module recalls on the older cars.

On the 2022-2025 Volkswagen Taos, the 1.5 TSI in the Taos holds roughly 4.5-4.6 quarts, an awkward capacity that sits just under a standard 5-quart jug. Quick-lube shops and even dealers routinely dump the whole jug in, which puts the level above the electronic oil level sensor's upper threshold and triggers an amber triangle with "Please reduce oil level" on the center display. Owners report the message appearing within days of an oil service, sometimes repeatedly after successive services. The dual-clutch system struggles with stop-and-go traffic and parking lot maneuvers. VW has released multiple TCU (Transmission Control Unit) software updates to improve shift calibration. The DQ381 DSG is fitted only to 4Motion (AWD) models with the 1.5T EA211 EVO engine; front-wheel-drive Taos use an 8-speed automatic instead.
