2021 Mazda CX-3 Problems: 9 Known Issues

Because Mazda regenerates by injecting extra fuel on the exhaust stroke, unburnt diesel washes past the rings into the sump - the oil level climbs above full and the dipstick carries an 'X' mark specifically to flag excessive dilution. Short-trip use makes it worse because regens abort before completion, so soot builds faster and the cycle tightens. P2459 (DPF regeneration frequency) is the code the ECM sets when it sees the filter loading much faster than expected. Left alone this destroys bearings through diluted oil and shortens DPF life. Leaking or out-of-spec fuel injectors are the most commonly found root cause; glow plug and EGR faults also drive it. This is a diesel-only failure and does not apply to the 2.0L Skyactiv-G petrol cars sold in North America.
