2019 Nissan Sentra Problems: 9 Known Issues

Class-action settlements extended the CVT warranty to 7 years/84,000 miles on 2013-2017 Sentras and by 24 months/24,000 miles on 2018-2019 Sentras. The transmission can fail as early as 60,000 miles. Common failure modes include belt slipping, valve body failure, and bearing wear.

On the 2013-2019 Nissan Sentra 1.8L MRA8DE I4 with Jatco JF015E CVT, the B17 Sentra's Jatco CVT (JF015E / CVT7, RE0F11A) uses a torque converter with a lockup clutch, and P0741 is set when the TCM sees the converter clutch failing to lock (input-shaft vs converter speed difference exceeding threshold). On these Nissan CVTs the lockup solenoid lives in the valve body, and the Jatco valve-body bores are prone to wear that causes pressure leakage and sticky solenoid/valve movement; degraded or overheated CVT fluid full of clutch material makes it worse. Drivers commonly feel a shudder/judder at light throttle, and on this transmission P0741 frequently appears alongside related lockup/judder codes such as P0744 and P17F0.

On the 2016-2019 Nissan Sentra, the stop-lamp (brake light) switch becomes contaminated by silicone off-gassing from grease used on nearby components. Electrical arcing oxidizes the contacts and builds up silicon dioxide, opening the circuit. The result is brake lights that do not illuminate (a rear-end-collision hazard) and, because the same switch signals the shift interlock, an inability to shift the transmission out of Park. Nissan recalled 807,376 Sentras under campaign PM971 (NHTSA 21V-135).
