How to Fix

Have a Toyota dealer check it. The bulletin applies only when the oil looks milky or discolored: the technician checks the oil and pressure-tests the cooling system first, because an internal coolant leak can look the same and takes the vehicle outside the bulletin. If the cooling system holds pressure and an Oil Pressure Low warning or code P05202A/P052477 is present, the technician clears codes, warms the engine (maintenance mode on hybrids) and, if the warning returns, replaces the oil and filter and re-checks; if it still returns, the bulletin no longer applies and normal diagnosis continues. If the oil is milky but there is no warning or code, or the warning does not return, the bulletin calls for an oil and filter change and wiping milky residue from the underside of the oil filler cap. Use the oil grade on the under-hood label. Normal warranty rules apply; this is not a recall or a promise of free repair (the bulletin's warranty table reads "Not Applicable to Warranty").
