On the 2022-2024 Ford F-150 Lightning, the Ford F-150 Lightning is under recall (NHTSA 25V131000, Ford 25S18) for a supplier manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery cells that can cause an internal short circuit. Production process deviations at the battery cell supplier caused misaligned electrodes in some cells. An internal short circuit in the battery pack increases the risk of thermal runaway and fire. Ford is aware of five vehicle fires and one injury claim that may be related. Affected vehicles were built between March 16, 2022 and August 14, 2024. Until the recall is completed, Ford advises owners to charge only to 80% maximum.
